Activate your license key

Your license key appears on the page right after payment. Paste it into Settings → License in the app, click Activate, then switch Dry run to Sending at the bottom of the menu.

What a key looks like

25 characters in five groups: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, digits and capital letters only. Case doesn't matter, spaces and dashes are optional, and the letter O is read as zero while I and L are read as one, so those mix-ups don't matter.

Activating

  1. Copy the keyClick Copy on the page you land on after paying. The same key is emailed to the address you paid with, as a backup.
  2. Paste it into the appOpen Settings → License (or the License step at the end of the setup window), paste the key and click Activate. The “Open in app” button on that page can hand the key over directly; if nothing happens, paste it by hand.
  3. Turn sending onOnce the status turns green, click Dry run at the bottom of the menu so it reads Sending (it asks you to confirm). From then on it actually sends.

What happens behind the scenes

The app trades your key for a signed “lease” tied to this Mac and checks it offline. A 30-day or 365-day license gets a lease of up to 30 days, a lifetime license 90 days; once a lease is 3 days old the app quietly renews it. A spell without internet doesn't stop sending until the current lease runs out.

When it talks to the license server it sends the license key, a hash of this Mac's device ID, the Mac's name, the platform (mac) and the app version. Never any message content. Where your data goes

Managing your Macs

  • A 30-day or 365-day license covers up to 2 Macs, a lifetime license up to 3. Macs in use, under Settings → License, shows how many are active.
  • At the limit, activating another Mac deactivates the one used least recently.
  • Moving to a new Mac? Click Deactivate This Mac in the old one's Settings → License, or, if it's gone, deactivate it on the license page.

Renewing and upgrading

Click Buy or Renew… in the app, or enter your key on the license page and renew there. The days are added to your current end date (or to today if it has passed). The key stays the same, and the app picks up the new date at its next renewal. You can also upgrade a 30-day or 365-day license to lifetime there; lifetime includes every version released within 3 years of purchase.

Lost your key?

On the license page, enter the email you paid with and we'll email you the keys under that address. To protect your privacy, the page never says whether an address has a license. Nothing arrived? Check your spam folder.

This Mac can never reach the license server

Activate offline: in the Offline activation section of the license page, enter your key, the device ID the app shows for this Mac and a name you'll recognise. It produces an offline lease to copy and paste back into the app. An offline lease follows the same rules as a normal activation and uses one Mac slot.

A refund revokes the key: the app stops sending at its next license check and goes back to dry run.
