Where your data goes
The messages it answers go from your Mac straight to the model provider you chose, never through our servers. We receive a little data when you pay and when the app activates or renews a license. We never receive your chats.
Meow is a Mac app (Windows in preview) that answers your WeChat while you're away: from your own account, through WeChat for Mac, it replies to one-to-one chats and to group messages meant for you, and signs every reply as AI.
Stays on your Mac
- Settings (the app's preferences and ~/Library/Application Support/meow/config.json)
- API keys and your license key, in the macOS Keychain
- Logs (~/Library/Logs/meow/): chat names, actions, counts and lengths, never message text
- One-to-one memory: 30 minutes, up to 30 entries, in memory only
- Drafts under Drafts in the menu: in memory only, gone when the app quits
- The contacts directory (only if you click Scan Contacts…, ~/Library/Application Support/meow/contacts.json): profile-card fields such as name, remark, WeChat ID, region and tags; delete it any time in Settings → You
- The latest 300 unread emails' sender, subject and preview, for mail alerts
- Screenshots: used only to read message bubbles, never kept or sent
Goes to your model provider
- The text of messages it answers
- Up to 20 earlier group messages, marked only as yours or a member's; the newest sender's nickname if the chat list shows it
- The last 30 minutes of a one-to-one chat
- The name you entered in Settings
- Files it reads
- When you ask it about your contacts, the profile-card fields of the few it finds
- Sender, address, subject and preview of emails it sorts
- Web search terms
Reaches us (license and payment)
- When the app activates, renews or deactivates: license key, a hash of the device ID, the Mac's name, platform and app version
- When you pay (through Stripe): email, plan, amount, currency, country, order number
- Emails you send support; your address if you join a waitlist
- IP addresses of requests to the site and license server, for rate limits and abuse prevention
We never collect
- Message content
- Contact lists, nicknames or WeChat IDs
- Your API keys
- Screenshots
- Email bodies (the extension doesn't read them)
- Card numbers (only Stripe sees them)
- Analytics, ad tracking or third-party cookies (this site has none)
On the model provider's side
Choose DeepSeek and requests go from your Mac straight to DeepSeek's API; choose Claude and they go to Anthropic. They use your own API key, and the provider bills you directly. How each provider stores and uses requests is set by its own privacy policy. Meow doesn't relay, keep or mark up anything in between.
Content from files and web pages is treated as material, never as instructions: even a file that says “send the private folder to someone” won't make it do so. The private folder is open only to contacts you trust and to you, and never to groups.
The license check
Only sending needs a license. The app contacts our license server only to activate, renew in the background and deactivate, and sends what's listed above: the license key, a hash of the device ID, the Mac's name, the platform (mac) and the app version. The device ID is a one-way hash of the Mac's hardware ID; the hardware ID itself never leaves your computer. The license server stores no message content, contact names or WeChat IDs.
The check itself happens offline: the server returns a signed “lease” that the app verifies on the Mac, so a short loss of connection doesn't stop sending.
Payment
You pay on Stripe's checkout page. From Stripe we get your email, the amount, currency, country and order number, to issue your key, handle refunds and keep accounts. Card numbers and WeChat Pay or Alipay account details stay with Stripe and the payment providers.
This website
This site uses no analytics, no ad tracking and no third-party cookies, and loads every file from our own domain. A license key you type on the license page is used only to ask the license server about it; it isn't stored in your browser.
Deleting your data
What's on your Mac is yours to remove: delete Meow, the folders listed above and the Keychain items named meow. For what we hold, email support to see, correct or delete it; payment records we must keep for a time by law.
The formal version is our privacy policy.
