Download and requirements
A free download that starts in dry run: it drafts replies and sends nothing. You need a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and WeChat for Mac 4.1.x in Simplified Chinese or English.
Meow is a Mac app (Windows in preview) that answers your WeChat while you're away: from your own account, through WeChat for Mac, it replies to one-to-one chats and to group messages meant for you, and signs every reply as AI.

Requirements
| macOS | macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs aren't supported. |
|---|---|
| Windows | In preview: not for sale or download yet. Join the waitlist. |
| WeChat for Mac 4.1.x with its interface in Simplified Chinese or English (both tested on 4.1.15). | |
| WeChat window | A normal window, not full screen. It can sit behind other windows, but not minimised. To open another chat the app waits until you’re away, then brings WeChat forward. |
| The Mac | On and unlocked. You can keep using it; a spare Mac runs smoother. |
| Permissions | Accessibility (to read and type in WeChat) and Screen Recording (to tell who wrote each message). Access to WeChat’s downloaded files is recommended. |
| A second WeChat account | Needed for mail alerts, which go to your other account. Not needed for replies, and instructions can go in your own File Transfer chat instead. |
| Model | DeepSeek V4.1 Flash by default; Claude or another Anthropic-compatible endpoint if you prefer. Your own API key. |
| Chrome with the Meow Mail extension. Gmail gets alerts and reply drafts; Outlook gets alerts only. | |
| Network | Access to your model provider’s API, and to our license server when the app activates or renews a license. |
Installing
- Unzip and move it to ApplicationsDouble-click the zip, drag Meow.app into Applications and open it. It lives in the menu bar at the top right of the screen, with no Dock icon. The first time, a setup window opens. The app starts in Chinese: pick English from the language menu (the globe) at the bottom left of the setup window, or later in Settings → General.
- PermissionsGrant Accessibility and Screen Recording. After Screen Recording, quit Meow and open it again. Allowing it to read WeChat's downloaded files is recommended, so it can read files people send you.
- WeChatOpen WeChat for Mac and log in. Its interface can be in Simplified Chinese or English. Use a normal window, not full screen.
- AssistantPick the model provider (DeepSeek by default) and paste your API key. How to get an API key
- YouAdd your name and, if you want to give instructions or get mail alerts on your other WeChat account, tell it which account is you.
- Start the dry runClick Start (Dry Run). When a message arrives, its draft shows up under Drafts in the menu.

Checking the download
The Mac app is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, and macOS checks it the first time it opens. To check the file yourself, run this in Terminal:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Meow.zip
The output should match the SHA-256 above exactly. Download only from this page; we can't vouch for a copy from anywhere else.
Updates
The app doesn't update itself. New versions appear here and in the changelog: quit Meow, replace the old app in Applications with the new one and open it. Settings, keys and permissions carry over. Messages that arrive during an update aren't answered later, so pick a quiet moment.
Windows
The Windows version is in preview. It runs on a real Windows PC, but it isn't code-signed yet and its mail alerts are untested, so it isn't for sale or download. Leave your email to hear when it is:
